Physiotherapy rehabilitation for baby with neuromotor delays, cerebral palsy or Dystonia in London

Rehabilitation is very important during childhood for any young cerebral palsy patients. Any rehabilitation program must be meticulous and done by qualified neuro physiotherapists to insure the best outcome possible.  For an ultimate result it is also important that your baby is followed, in the meantime, by an occupational and speech therapist.

Its aim is to avoid further complications that may occur when going through the different milestones, especially when starting to walk (a claudication puts on risk of damaging the joins of the lower limbs), during the hormonal and physical changes that appears with puberty (e.g. the intake of weight can be harmful for the gait or the ability to stand up) and during the growth (a sudden outstretching of the spine muscles can cause a scoliosis).

Neuro rehabilitation for babies or children with neurologic delays also aims to help the child in his motor development and find solutions to go beyond a situation that he cannot take over by himself. For instance, learning how to stand back up after a fall may seem a simple concern for most of us, but it can be difficult for a child with cerebral palsy. If the situation appears to be too difficult to overcome, the therapist can suggest material to help, so a child with standing issues or who has muscular tone imbalance will be able to walk with a walking frame.

The aim of physiotherapy rehabilitation for baby and children with cerebral palsy and motor delay in London

The aim of neuro rehabilitation for babies or children with neurologic delays is as much precautionary as it is educational. It has for goal to highlight the existing abilities of the child and to maintain them – or even improve them for as long as possible.
The most frequent issues a baby or child with cerebral palsy faces is the spasticity. It is a state of increased muscular tone that disturbs any normal movements. The lack of motor control (complete or incomplete paralysis linked to a deficient brain command), the syncinesis (these are unwanted movement added to normal movements because of the inability to select only the wanted muscles), lack of sensations, coordination issues, balance issues.

The goal is to help the child build up a better motor pattern and to help him – if possible – improve his motricity.
Games and ludic settings are used while doing the exercises to help involve the child in the rehabilitation. The aim is to avoid weariness and disinterest from the child so the patient stay consistently involved.

To maximise the efficiency of the treatment our physiotherapist often teams up with our paediatric osteopath, occupational therapist and speech therapist.
